Yeah we never were able to use one with Nola because of the accident she had as a puppy and the damage to her nose. But with Laynie she is a completely different dog when she walks with one on.
There’s nothing like having you dog trot right next to you on a loose lead…. HEAVEN. I’ve used a Halti for years with my dog. I was able to find a leash with 2 prongs, one that attaches to the Halti and another that attaches to the collar as back up (it’s called the Leerburg Prong Collar Leash). If you’re going to be using a head halter frequently, I think it’s great product definitely worth checking out.
We actually just have a chain martingale collar that we connect the leash to as well as the gentle leader. It seems to work well, but I agree, it’s important to have a leash connected to the collar as well. Laynie tries very hard to get the gentle leader off!
Seriously – what a wonderful training tool. My friend uses these on both of her aussie mixes, and they did a complete turn-around with leash manners.
